We choose a travel grill. Part 1

Many people find it difficult to imagine free time without delicious food prepared on the grill. This is both a pleasant and interesting process and delicious dishes for family and friends. And when grilling brings so much joy, you want to do it in nature.

Kamado for trips - yes or no?

Ceramic kamado grills are already standing on the terraces of many houses. So more than one person has probably thought that this barbecue can be taken to the homestead or a picnic by the lake or river. Apparently, why have another one, when the thing is already used, you know how to bake with it, etc. However, we encourage you to evaluate some of the stories we often hear in our practice, which, unfortunately, are not in favor of Kamado. However, let's not be in a hurry to get feverish, but let's rationally look together at the situations you will encounter while traveling.

Based on our many years of work experience, the feedback we hear, our own experience, and the experience of the global grill chains we represent, we have compiled the most important criteria. By choosing a barbecue according to them, you can be sure that it will perfectly meet your needs and will bring joy for many years on long and short trips. Although the choice is currently extremely abundant, after considering all the aspects listed below, we guarantee that it will be much easier to make a decision.

Size and compactness

It is no secret, especially for those who have children, that the car is not made of rubber. This phrase is probably uttered by more than one family man when he sees the things being prepared for a trip... And even after getting ready to spend the weekend in nature, there is still not so much space.

Therefore, when choosing a grill, carefully evaluate the size of the grill itself and its cooking area. In this case, the design of the grill is extremely important: the more compact its parts are, the less space it takes up in the machine, the better. Manufacturers spend many years improving the designs of these grills, so there are really many options.

As an example, we can give global grandees - WEBER and NAPOLEON travel grills. They fold up at the click of a button - like a suitcase, so they take up much less space in the trunk.

Another example is COBB grill. It is not without reason that it takes the first place in the class of compact grills. Its special, patented construction is designed in such a way that all the planes of this grill can be placed inside each other for incredible capacity.

Weight

This is a criterion that is usually not thought about when choosing a grill. And we can guarantee that you will think about it on your first trip, when it will be too late.

Weight is extremely important, because in rare cases it is baked right next to the car. And after all, you want to grill on the terrace of the homestead, on the river bank, in the dunes or in a beautiful area of the forest a little further away.

The weight of travel barbecues varies - from 3 kg to 25 or even 40 kg. So just convert this weight into more familiar things - 5L water bottles, bags of building materials and try to imagine how you will carry it 50, 100 or even 200 meters to the place and back.

So not in vain COBB grills so popular and so valued by their owners: depending on the model and chosen plane, it weighs from 3.5 kg to 7.9 kg. A woman and even a child can easily carry it. Meanwhile, even the smallest ceramic grill weighs as much as 25 kg.

What is it made of?

Traveling is also a bumpy asphalt, a gravel road, a winding forest road. When choosing a grill, consider what it is made of and how much maintenance it will need not only while driving, but also during other leisure time. After all, vacation is a time when you rest, when you want to relax as much as possible.

It is for this reason that kamado grills do not work: they are extremely hot and sensitive to bumps and uneven roads. Instead, choose grills made of metal. Ideally, it would be stainless steel. Nothing will happen to such a barbecue, even if it falls out of your hands, if a child trips over it; you can clean it with any means. In addition, it is not afraid of moisture, it will not start to rust if left wet.
