COBB
COBB is a portable grill that originated in Africa. The first COBB grill was developed by the Heart and Stroke Foundation to make it easier for people living in rural areas without electricity to go about their daily lives, so the COBB brand can be said to have been born out of the need to cook more safely without the need to use direct fire. The idea of encouraging Africans to use maize as a cooking fuel rather than wood or charcoal has grown into the globally known and recognisable COBB brand.
Gradually, the COBB grill became an integral part of humanitarian programmes: the relatively inexpensive first grills gradually took over the kitchens of third countries, before finally, after a long period of refinement, spreading around the world with all the necessary accessories.
The brand's first grill, a ceramic, clumsy and heavy prototype, has become a modern, environmentally friendly, portable and extremely efficient grill. The main fuel was dry corn kernels, which is why it is called COBB - short for corn cobs. The name - short, clear and representative of the original purpose - has been retained to the present day, and the fuel used - the cobs - has been replaced by coal briquettes.
In December 2001, Time magazine internationally recognised the COBB as one of the best inventions of the year. The brand has also won several awards for Best Design, Mr Africa's Innovation, the Barbecue Association and others.
Developed over several decades, the COBB grill can now grill, sear, smoke, boil or simply reheat the food you want, and is lightweight, space-saving and useful in the garden, on terraces, balconies, or in the great outdoors, whether you are fishing or hunting. This grill will help you cook healthier food - the fat management system and the tray trap excess fat so your food cooks juicy but not greasy.
